Dear Young Adult / Single at Colonial,
2010 brings changes to my role in single ministry at Colonial. As of February 1st, I will be moving to Cares Ministry. I will still be ministering to single adults but not in the role of singles pastor-- it will be in areas touched by counsel and care.
Singles Ministry will remain in Adult Ministry under the pastoral leadership of Don Sandberg and will go forward under the leadership of our Young Adult and Single ‘Adult Bible Fellowship’ (ABF) leaders. Things like Singles Friday Night Volleyball and your involvement in men’s and women’s ABF ministries will not change one bit.
I will continue teaching the Thursday evening Bible Study through the book of Daniel. The future of that ministry will be decided later.
You will find this website will continue as a place to find direction for connection as singles ministry at Colonial goes forward “seeking to help single and single again find and follow their greatest friend Jesus Christ.”
It has been a very memorable 7 ½ years. God has deepened my heart for singles and single-again. I thank God for the experience of ABF teaching, retreats, gatherings, class events, The Path, Thursday Night Bible Study, pig pickin’s and game nights. You have ministered to me and taught me many things. Many of you are and will continue to be friends.
I value your prayers as I shift gears into a challenging new role. It is my prayer that you all will grow in Christ in 2010. Our focus in 2009 was “Live, not for yourselves but for Jesus” taken from 2 Corinthians 5:15.
I have spent a little time in Philippians over the past two weeks and Philippians 2:21 has settled on my heart as I begin 2010: “For everyone looks out for his own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.” If you look at the context it speaks of Timothy and one of his good characteristics. He had a focus on the things that “mattered” to Jesus. I was challenged by this thought, “Act on the interests of Jesus Christ”. So I have given thought to “what matters to Jesus”? (Well I am sure it is a much longer list. Here are my thoughts limited to seven points):
- People do matter. It is God’s desire that you and I witness to and disciple and speak to people with the words they need to hear balancing truth and love.
- Jesus wants us to have a "Kingdom first" mindset-- Matthew 6:33. This mindset carries me this fact: The organization God has placed to lead His Kingdom in this age is the local church. I must be part of it, help minister through it. God has gifted me and equipped me for that purpose.
- A grasp by faith of God’s sovereign work in my life everyday is something that matters to the Lord – I Thessalonians 5:16-18.
- It matters to Jesus that you and I are self controlled and alert-- I Thessalonians 5:5,6.
- Jesus desires that you and I guard our heart. Behind that of course is keeping ourselves from pursuits that take us away from due worship of the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Jesus wants us to grow in His Word and allow it to permeate our thoughts and life-- Colossians 3:16ff.
- It matters to Jesus that you and I are in tune with Him, being filled with the Holy Spirit and walking in step with the Holy Spirit.
For His Glory,

Brad Harbaugh, Pastor |
